Description of The Health Benefits of Some Medicinal Plants

Medicinal plants are widely used from ancient times because of their health benefits. Medicinal plants have been used in traditional medicines. Medicinal plants are sources of mineral elements that are helpful for us.

Medicinal plants are also known as medicinal herbs. Since the very ancient time, people have been using plants in their daily life. Natural remedies are accepted around the world from early times. In many countries traditional medicines are considered as primary treatment. Barks, root, stem, seed, flower are used from different medicinal plants in order to cure infections.

Now there are some medicinal plants that you can grow at your home that will help to treat common ailments. Plants can be used in teas, applied as essential oil or taken as pills but you should take advice or consult with a doctor before using anything new for your body. The medicinal plants that we can have in our home are:

Basil

Basil is an effective herb with lots of health benefits. It has vitamins and minerals in it such as vitamin K and iron. Holy basil, a species of basil, originates from India. We call it tulsi. Basil is used in teas, ointments, meals etc. It comes with antibacterial properties and antioxidants. Manganese in basil helps in metabolism. It is also used for reducing inflammation

Parsley 

Parsley is a good herb used as a garnish for dishes or in juice or tea. Parsley is beneficial for the immune system, digestion and bones. It is a rich source of antioxidants, vitamin K and other components. It can be also a useful herb if you have bad breath.

Peppermint 

Peppermint is a known medicinal herb used in tea or essential oil. We also taste it in gum, toothpaste and desserts. Peppermint is helpful for allergies, headache and muscle pain. Also of use for digestion and bad breath. It has antibacterial properties.

Garlic 

We use garlic widely for it’s benefits. We use it as ingredient or garnish for dishes. Raw garlic gives you health benefits most. Garlic prevents many health disease and lowers cholesterol and blood pressure. 

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is a lemon scented herb. It helps to relieve stress and anxiety. It is said to soothe symptoms of stress. Also useful for insomnia and other sleep disorders. It helps to lessen headache pain and toothache. It treats nausea and cold sores. Lemon balm also can be helpful for relieving menstrual cramps and premenstrual syndrome. It can be used in garnishing dishes and desserts, brewed leaves for tea.

Sage

Sage is a popular element for some dishes and beauty products. This herb is used as a natural cleaning agent, pesticide. It’s loaded with antioxidants and nutrients. It helps to reduce blood sugar levels and support memory and brain health. Also may protect against certain cancers.

Thyme 

Thymol is found in thyme. The flowers, leaves and oil of thyme are used to treat many health problems. It helps for boosting immunity. It also lowers blood pressure. It has  strong antifungal properties. It’s also beneficial for soothing sore throats and coughs. 

You can keep these helpful medicinal plants or herbs in your home and use these for pains or symptoms according to your necessity.
